Before dairy farmers make the decision to groove their floors, our experts answer a number of practical questions about the process itself. We have collected the five most frequently asked questions and answers.
1. What method is used to groove the floors?
ATTOR specialists perform floor grooving according to the method created by the American company "Trakrite Global". The ideal solution has been developed by Karl Burgi, an expert in cow hoof care, gathering over thirty years of worldwide experience. The main principles of the method are to increase the adhesion of the cow's hoof to the floor covering with the correct groove in the direction of movement, reduce the accumulation of dirt and improve hygienic conditions. As a result, the number of injuries and hoof diseases is reduced, and the cow's sense of security while walking is improved.
We invite you to contact our specialists and apply for a free consultation. Our representative will assess the condition of the existing concrete floors in the barn in person at your farm, show you samples of floor grooves and recommend the most suitable solution.
2. How often are the grooves in a need of redo?
The durability of grooves depends on several factors. For example, from the quality of the concrete, the previous grooving, the surface maintenance procedure, the location of the grooving in the barn and the size of the cow herd. Under normal conditions, the grooves last for several years and their positive effect can be observed as soon as the cow takes its first steps.
3. How long does it take to groove concrete floors?
The duration of the project depends on the condition of the concrete floor. On average, we are able to cut from 100 to 300m2 in one day. Grooving floors in the barn can be done in separate stages. Start with the acute areas and gradually increase the area of the grooved floors.
4. Where the cattle stay, when the work is in process?
Most often, the cows are right there in the barn. The work is organized in such a way as to disturb the daily habits of the cows as little as possible. Cows are relatively quick to accept the process taking place in the barn and even show interest in it. Barns DO NOT need to be freed from cows in order to do floor grooving works.
5.How muchthe floor grooving cost?
The cost of grooving the barn floor is calculated individually after assessing the condition of the floor. When calculating the financial loss of cows that have to be culled due to injuries, floor grooving is cheaper and improves the overall health of the entire herd.
